Remember the Cleaning Hunk? Now there are three of them...

For no particular reason, I checked the Cleaninghunk.com website out again today and discovered that they've gotten pretty high tech... three cleaning hunks, choice of outfits for each hunk, choice of music, and choice of which locations he's cleaning.

They've also completely reedited the original Cleaning Hunk video; the guy no longer takes his pants off or takes off his underwear at the end of the commercial. I'm guessing that somebody decided it was in "bad taste."

Personally I like the original guy best, but I'm sure some of you guys will like the other guys better.

Oh and btw, when I was moving out of my rental house about 6 months ago, I was at the store and they had Xtra-Pine, the stuff the Cleaning Hunk sells, so I decided to buy some. It was dirt cheap (like a buck a bottle vs 3 bucks for the real stuff), and it was worth just about as much. It didn't clean worth a shit. But I bet they are still selling tons of it to housewives (and maybe gay men) watching the videos.

A propos of nothing, does anyone remember Sean Patrick Live? What ever became of him?

Okay, have Brian do your kitchen in his rock and roll outfit. I almost pee'd myself. That's too funny. I think they veered a bit from being really sexual to being campy and funny. Shame about the pants thing, that was really fun.

My God, I had forgotten about him. I used to log onto his webcam years ago and watch him. I think some magazine did an article on him at one point, and that's how I found out about him. It was funny, because back when I was in college, I used to write this outspoken opinion column as an openly gay male, and I used to get nasty letters to the editor written about me by this Republican guy named Sean Patrick. Not the same one, but I remember being amused by the irony.

I believe Sean Patrick was at the beginning of the webcam phase. He set up a webcam in his apartment and you could pop in and watch him doing anything: eating, sleeping, cleaning, reading, sometimes having sex. It was great fun for a while, especially when you caught him having sex and then you'd run off to all your IRC buddies, "Sean Patrick is having sex!!"

There used to be another one with four straight guys living together, but I forget was it was called, "bachelor" something maybe.

I went to a party in Weho on Saturday night, an area I rarely go into anymore, and I heard a few different younger guys talking about how horrible it is for an older guy to hit on them.

I'm 37 and chunky (that's "old" and "fat" by Weho standards) and I hadn't realized how much I've let that LA attitude of needing to be young and thin affect me until Saturday night. I went home feeling all depressed and down on myself. But I finally realized that people come in all shapes and sizes, ages and types. And there are many more 'average' looking people then there are beautiful people. So why should we hate ourselves for not having 0% body fat or chiseled features?

You know what I'm noticing? I still see guys in the neighbourhood from when I was 20. They were beautiful then and wouldn't give you the time of day. Well, turns out that beautiful people don't age so well. A lot of those beautiful people are hitting their mid forties and they're hagging out.

Honey, can we talk??? You know my views on this: The Los Angeles gay community--or at least the part of it that gets the most attention--represents everything that I think is wrong with gays today. Everyone gets all pissy when I talk about this, because people just don't want to hear it, but we are a community so inundated with ideals of youth and beauty and so-called perfection that we've lost site of what's truly important, which are the ideals of acceptance, solidarity and tolerance. We demand the straights take us seriously, yet we fail to take ourselves seriously. Our conversations are dominated by talk of our workout routines and diet habits, and if you take a look at the personals of guys who are online cruising for sex, the extent of our superficiality is nothing if not insanely depressing. The irony is that these ideas are perpetuated by this very business. Porn and magazine covers and ads for circuit parties have a lot to do with how we perceive ourselves--and also how we judge ideals of beauty. That's why I think it's incumbent upon porn producers to make sure they are doing their best to cast models of varying body types and musculature and age and race in their movies. Nobody does this better than Joe Gage, who casts skinny smooth twinks alongisde gym bunnies and older daddy types with (gasp!) bellies--and STILL manages to make it seem hotter than anything else on the market. We have the opportunity to change the way that gay men perceive each other and ourselves, and we should exploit that opportunity. Despite those who disagree with this theory, porn has such HUGE influence over the gay community. And I think if we're going to help gay men come to terms with things like body image and get them to look beyond conventional ideals of "hot," then we should use this medium to do so. For gay men--a community whose identity is instrinsically linked to their sexual identities--there's no better classroom than the bedroom. The question is, "What do YOU want to teach them?"

It's funny, I work in this business and I adore our RB models because they are all really sweet guys. But I'm really objective about the whole industry. I was at the beach yesterday with friends and we were looking at these cute guys playing volleyball on the beach. All of them had really nice bodies, very handsome, skin glistening with sweat, bronzed by the sun. And I sat there picking out which ones would look great on some of the various sites I know, and how they looked really great and everything. Then my friend asked me which one I was hot for, and at that moment this guy walked past with a mohawk, tattoos on his arms and on the sides of his head, wearing all black, Doc Martens. His body type was average and his face was cute without being overly handsome. I said, "him". My friend asked why. I said, "well, his look says to me that we like some of the same things, tatts, piercings, mohawk." Guys who have all of these things usually like some of the same other things, not always but sometimes, and so if I was going to have anything in common with any of these people, it might have been him. Um... well except for the fact he was holding hand with a girl. LOL!

Now, his body type didn't matter. His looks didn't matter. Did he have to have all the ink and stuff? No. That was my first impression. But my idea of attraction is based on the fact that I might have something in common with a person. That's why porn doesn't do anything for me. I can look at thousands of "hot" guys on websites, but they are just pics and videos. So I don't really think of them beyond the aesthetics. I guess that's why working in this industry is perfect for me. I'm not caught up in it.

I think that's true for a lot of people in the industry, Don. We're used to seeing "hot guys" all the time, so it doesn't phase us as much when we encounter them in real life. Having enjoyed several of the, um, "perks" that come with my job (um, er, Is so-and-so-Mr.-Bigname-Porn-Star trying to seduce me???), it's funny how little interest in have in guys who look like porn stars in so-called "real life." Like you, I'm attracted to people based on their personalities and ideals, not their body type. But it only takes spending 30 seconds on any of the online personals to discover that a very large portion of the community doesn't think the same way as we do. ;)

Yeah, and it's all over LA. Well, they say if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. So I'm gonna beat 'em. I just gotta find a big enough STICK!!!

Nah, I just mean I'm still going to love myself no matter what my size and what other people may think. Sure, I'm going to the gym, but that's more out of health reasons. I'm finding that I have been having less energy the more weight I've been gaining and I'd much rather be able to bound out of bed in the morning and happily skip to work rather than drag myself to the 7-11 to get my first cup of artificial stimulant, which is what I do now. LOL!

Honestly, Don, I think people with a LOT of different body types have to have that first cup of coffee in the morning to jumpstart their energy. I'm kinda skinny, and I'm STILL dead tired when I wake up in the mornings! :)

Well, yeah. Bad analogy. I'm just talking general health. I have a friend who recently found out he's got adult onset diabetes and looking at my own habits of bad eating and no exercise, I'm worried I might be headed in that direction, or heart problems. Plus, when I was in the hospital last year with my appendix I promised that I would do everything in my power to not end up back there if I could help it. It's one thing to have a health problem you couldn't help, but it's another to know you're there because you just didn't take care of yourself.

The whole issue of objectification is for me one of the most uncomfortable things about working in the adult industry. Of course there are the exceptions - the sites with "everyday" guys - but as a whole, both commercial and adult modeling continue to perpetuate the need for perfect bodies, beautiful faces, etc.

I guess for me, when I look at one of our models, I see a handsome guy who will be popular on our site, but I don't see him/her as someone I'd like to date or have sex with. And maybe I'm in the minority as a webmaster in that regard, but I look at it from a practical standpoint; with very rare exceptions, one simply can't have a lot in common with someone who is 25 years younger.

As far as dating or relationships or sex, I would rather have someone who shares a lot of the same viewpoints, interests, and personality traits I do, and yet I see the trend Ken is talking about... not just in LA, but almost everywhere I've been or heard about from our models... that the guy who might be the sweetest, most amazing person gets ignored or shunned because he isn't "beautiful", while the guy who is a self-centered piece of shit but is beautiful gets hit on by everyone.

It would be nice if there were a way to educate people and get them to think about that, but I think that would be a challenge.

Yes, but to me, the challenges we are presented with are the very things that make life worth living--and business worth doing. How else do we grow and evolve if we aren't challenging ourselves? ;)
