Spam me with the best Gay Site Designers..

I am looking for the best Gay Site Designers in the biz.....

And we want gay - we dont want a great straight designer that does gay - we employ our own fantastic full time designers for our straight sites.

We want someone that is gay and knows what other gay guys want. Thats non negotiable!

The right person will be producing sites for one of the most established and respected progs in the industry - that looks great on any CV.

Damian_Maxcash - just as a designer whose personal preference in slender 18 year old girls makes a terrible mature site and an even worse BBW site without a lot of input from the site designer (and believe me, they do), there is no one-size-fits-all gay man who likes ALL types of men. most of the well-done gay sites i've worked with were made by designers, some of whom don't make their gender attractions public and many of whom are str8.

a well-versed designer who makes gay sites that sell well and have appeal to gay men might be a bit more practical than trying to find a gay designer. i've only worked with 2 designers i know were gay, and their work wasn't as good as most of the other designers i've used.

Thats ok - I do know what you mean - If I had my way all the gay sites at MC would be focused on mature guys with hairy chests :)

I do firmly believe that a gay designer will know what sells more than a str8 one. I would be pushing it to find great gay designers that only specialize in one niche though.

I would hope I find at least one great designer who is gay - it would be REALLY hard to find one that is only into foreskins for example :)

I assume there is a Purist intent behind the request.

I hate doing this as the example because it makes me feel more like a pig in the eyes of some, but...

Example: A womYn site openly designed by a man will not gain respect if it is publicly stated. Whereas a Womyn site designed by a woman will. It's empowering and puts out a message of its own.

This may not be the very reason for the Gay only request but, you can use the same example for some gay men. Any and all support for gay only anything.

But I do agree, The job should be filled by the person (male, female, black, white, gay, straight or pan) who can do the job right.

actually no - no purist intent, at all, just a commercial one. my experience, and that is pretty vast, is that the sites that make the bset money in gay are not made by gay designers. it's highly unlikely that the surfers will recognize the work and respect - or not respect - the site more for choosing a gay designer. i read surfer boards all the time as part of my work as a consultant and a reviewer, and although surfers sometimes talk about processors, i have not once seen them talk about the name of a designer or their orientation.

we're talking porn here. a site that made by a designer who works with the niche and the fantasy and causes guys to pull out their credit cards IS the best tour.

I "used" a designer basschick pointed me to and he was VERY cooperative, great in his work fast and straight - I don't give a fuck if a person is straight or gay or bisexual or lesbian. What counts is the output. However if a straight guy has issues with cutting out another person's dick or edit gay-hardcore-footage that guy may not be right for that gay job - find another one instead.

The str8 boards havnt picked up on that at all.

to me, this isn't about discrimination - although i suppose it could be. to me, deciding on a designer for a commercial site should be about your wallet. besides, when it comes to people like peter at webinc, i don't know or care who turns his crank. i'm happy as long as i like his designs.

perhaps you or the folks at maxcash wanted to support the gay community, and that would be very cool. but i see someone post looking for a gay designer at least once every 2 months, and no one ever knows a good one. the very few whose work i've seen didn't impress me as to knowing the market any better, and their tours weren't sellers.

but keep in mind that i may have worked with more gay designers than i'm aware of as i don't ask people i work with whether they are str8, gay, bi or tg.

considering that most people on the straight boards market sites called "twink" with balding 30 year olds and muscular guys, and market sites called "muscle" with guys who are average sized, i'd say most people on the str8 boards may not be all that in touch with anything to do with gay ;)

I agree totally with everything that Basschick has said. However, I would like to add that designers design. A good designer knows hierarchy. Knows color schemes. Knows mechanics.

However, a designer is only as good as the client requesting the design. I for one would never say to a designer, "Design me a bear site. See you in a week with the check."

What one needs before they approach a designer is a vision of what they want the site to be. That comes from marketing.

I always create a rough visual on paper before I give to a designer as a foundation for what I want. Then it's really up to me and the designer to make it happen.

I have no idea if any designer I have ever used was gay or straight. In fact I am sure some of the companies that I have worked with have both gay and straight designers.

I look for a designer with a good sense of hierarchy, color schemes, and technical skills as my requirements. Those are my weaknesses. Helping the designer make a tour more butch is the easy part as long as the designer is easy to work with. That's a whole other issue. :)

This is turning into an interesting thread :)

Perhaps I should rephrase what I am looking for.

I was taken on as the Gay Sites Affilate Manager for MaxCash. I want to make MaxCash a real force in the gay scene.

I have learned that we have some great staff that are employed full time to build sites. They know the biz better than many of us here. They build fantastic sites that convert.

But they are all straight.

I want to be spending my days promoting the sites and offering affilates the best service I can. We have some RSS feeds coming that are going to blow you away.

In reality I spend too much time looking for great video clips and pics for the new niche sites to perform 100% as an affiliate manager.

I want someone who can do the design and gets excited by the content. I want someone who can do half my job for me. :)

If you have experience as a website designer and you know a hot guy when you see one hit me up :)

abostonboy, couldn't agree with you more!

Damian_Maxcash, my personal experience with designers who get excited by the content is that they're too close and too personal and make designs that don't make money. the gay designers i worked with thought it was fun to camp things up, and maybe it was fun for them. the surfers apparently didn't want camp judging by their lack of signups. i won't tell you about the gay designer who simply made the world's ugliest pages.

btw, all the maxcash gay sites i've seen have the exact same content inside, which is a pretty good collection of DVDs - yet maxcash continues to make them look like old school paysites. why not go this route if what the sites have to offer is dvd content? the good thing about this kind of tour is it lets the content speak for itself.

That's the LAST thing you want. Seriously, my ex-roommate was a great designer and loved porn. However, he had his "feelings" on how it should be. He was excited about the porn. But had no clue how to sell it or design it. What looks good to someone who is designing something he is excited about and what actually sells are more often than not two different things.

And trying to convince them otherwise is like getting a root canal. Very painful.
