Do You Ever Wonder Why...

It seems like the same people are getting 'scammed' time and time again by people they do business with?

I was just reading a thread over on GMS that SameBB started where, yet again, he is stating someone he used to have a business relationship with has ripped him off and shouldnt be trusted.

I mean really, it has to be more than just 'bad luck' when the same handfull of people keep getting ripped off by the same handfull of people time and time again, you would have though Sam would have learnt his lesson after the whole Reece Dylan thing a few years back but it seems that he is still working in the same circles as questionable individuals.

Oh and of course, yet again, its not Sams fault and he is the victim LOL

When you post facts with links about someone, and they get defensive, it's a red flag that they might not be someone you want to do business with :innocent:

When someone is always in bed with people that are scamming him you should take it like a brick in the head that doing business with them will be a negative experience.

Well thats not an uncommon problem with people living on the edge.

I remember when younger I used to hang with various groups of hippies - and they were always getting into squabbles like that - because they had so little money and were always just one step ahead of disaster, they tended to take advantage of each other, feeling as if they were forced to do so.

the explanation was always the same - "well, I thought I could pay you back, but I was wrong, the monies gone, I can't".

And I saw the exact same thing when I was running contracting businesses - people take jobs to make desperately needed money, often underbidding, then the job goes wrong and everybody gets screwed.

I dont know if i agree with you Bill, i mean really you would have thought that Sam would have learnt his lesson after the Reece Dylan episode a year or two back, but instead he still seems to be aligning himself with dubious members of the adult industry.

There comes a point where it isnt about naivity or being young, if he was serious about business he'd kick those associates of his to the curb, instead he really does seem to be building himself up a circle of 'friends' who are shady, for whatever reason and others in the industry are noticing this and distancing themselves from the guy.

That is no way to do business, if you lay with dogs long enough, you are gonna get fleas and im afriad from the outside looking it, Sam is infested.

what about those folks who always publicly call people out, and yet when pressed for details say crap like "oh, you know what I'm talking about" or publicly reject offers to discuss and resolve the matter?

I've seen a number of people on various boards start whole threads to blast sponsor programs, designers, other webmasters, etc, only to make ambiguous general statements with no facts or details to back it up and when the other party offers to explore the issue (whatever it is) and work to get it resolved, the "wronged" party pulls some melodramatic "I refuse to speak to you now because of how you've wronged me" crap.

Scamming people is always a short term option. Eventually people will realize the guilty parties are scammers and discontinue business.

Well, I don't have any of the inside details, but the more I hear, the more it sounds like a desperation situation - people making bad choices because they are trying to cover up a shortgage of money and an excess of debt.

Why else would they do it? Drugs maybe - that is, one tends to hire people with the same addictions that one has, in that "brotherhood of the pipe" thing.

But "drugs" is usually just code for short of money - that is, the core problem is much the same, except in this case the cash flow is being smoked or snorted.

Or maybe the fellow just likes shady people?

What's your theory for the real background story for it?

Those folks irritate me.

I'm a firm believer in posting links, as I did with the GayAdPros and Traffic Dude post on another board.

Of course when people are called out they play the victim and accuse you of drama, they try to wiggle out of what they've said/done and in some cases they don't respond at all and just hope it will all go away.

If certain people in this business would just tell the truth they wouldn't have to worry about dealing with their lies/misrepresentations down the road. :groovy:

Went and read the thread in question. It's absolutely nutty.

Sounds like a rival fight. No desperation involved, just rivalry and bad feelings between individuals.

And a charge of content theft, which may or may not be the result of agreements made before the bad feelings started.

Kinda silly. Except to the rivals, I'm sure.

Well this is just my personal opinion but with Sam and Reece i do think that at first he (Sam) was duped in to doing business with him (Reece), perhaps because of his naivity about the business, along with several other individuals who were lured towards Reece (DannyZ, JustMe, etc) with the promise of a lot of money, a lot of partying and a lot of other things however, i think how Sam handled the whole situation (along with others) in the following weeks and months after they had cemented their friendship with Reece was stupidity, defending someone who quite obviously to the webmaster population en mass was committing mass fraud not only put him in a bad light but i also feel showed his ability to totally disregard the 'facts' of what transpired.

Then, when it was 'discovered' that Reece actually was a scammer and Sam (and others) had been so ardently defended him throughout the week of 'discovery' they tried saying they were 'victims' of his crimes, despite knowing months, possibly weeks ahead of time that he had some shady dealings going on... I recall a trip to some hotel in Spain where Reece basically skipped out on several people leaving them with a huge bill.. At that point, anyone with half a brain would have realized something wasnt quite right... But not this crowd.

Then without going in to to much detail was the 'incident' with Bec, which had a LOT of us ready to kill the guy.

He has also had several other 'issues' where business deals have gone south for him, either through his own doing or because the people he was working with 'scammed' him, after falling for one or two 'scams' anyone else would make sure they researched the people they were doing business with, at least, that would be the common sense thing to do, but not our Sam.

Then there was the whole calling me a child pornographer on GFY which pretty much sealed my opinion of him, followed by his being named as a 'witness' in a phony lawsuit Reece actually 'hired' an attorney to have us served with papers from, despite the fact that our attorney contacted the 'firm' Reece/Sam apparently hired and they [the law firm] had never heard of either of them.

When getting told of this discovery, Sam again went on another tirade, slandering several people/companies, resulting in a quick trip to the UK for me one weekend to do some discovery of my own, right after which Sam decided it was time he moved home... Which was actually a good thing for him.

So yeah, i do beleive at the start of Sams public life in the adult industry he may have been duped in to working for/with a scammer however, upon finding out, how he handled himself, his business/hobby and his PR after the fact pretty much made a lot of people realize the type of person Sam is along with the type of individuals he does business with... Which is why he has a very limited circle of 'friends' who strangely enough, apparently keep fucking him over.

The problem is, Sam is ALWAYS a victim, nothing is ever his fault.

Like i said earlier, you lay with dogs, you get fleas... As Sam keeps finding out.

i dont know any of the people mentioned but it does sound strange to me i saw the thread on gms and it just looked like the one guy was digging up old dirt to try and stain the name of someone he used to do business with but for some reason they had a fight and now he is trying to say one guy is a scammer because he doesnt work with him any more

WOW I just read the post on GMS how ironic.

When I post information, with links, about a company like they are, in ADVANCE of someone getting ripped off, to warn people, some people say it's drama, when in fact it's a great help to the community.

Watching crooks try to prove which one is more of a crook is somewhat amusing. I'm glad those types know not to come to GWW, unfortunately they know they have free run on other boards.

I thought I had better make a comment about this all as I am the person currently being attacked by Sam on GMS and being called a fraudster etc etc.

I think if anyone has read GMS they will already have read my reply to Sams posts, if not please have a read of it.

As you may also have noticed from the thread on GMS, Sam has been unable to substantiate his claims made against me regarding content theft or being a fraudster and he wont be able to as both claims are false.

Yes, I dealt with Sam and rather stupidly went into business with him despite several people warning me not to. When it all went sour because Sam wasnt happy he couldnt bully me into doing things his way, Sam then launched a series of attacks on me on several boards (including some social networking sites) and tried to damage my business and reputation by posting a 4 year old article on a conviction I have from the past.

Reading Lee's post above it now becomes clear that Sam has a habit of doing this and attacking people time and time again when he falls out with them. Each time he claims he was scammed/defrauded etc. I'm sure you have all heard the tale of the boy who cried wolf. Maybe its time people actually started to look at Sam and his own business practices.

I will let you all make your own decisions on this one. If anyone wants further clarification please msg me.

it is probably not good to keep egging the guy on over at gms by keeping replying to him here and not there he is obviously a known scammer by the sounds of it so just let it be at that this thread is here and the one on gms to let people find out about him if they wanted to

I think it's just frustrating for a lot of people who put time and effort into informing the community of who this guy was three years ago.

You know, to be fair, its not just Sam, everyone doing business with anyone should be going to the boards and searching for information on the person they are going to be working with, whether its a designer, programmer, hosting company or affiliate program.

Im constantly amazed at the amount of people who start posting they have been 'scammed' by somebody that already has a history of scamming people, especially on the sponsor program side of things by not paying their affiliates, but rather than spending a few minutes checking an affiliate programs past history, people rush to signup to a program, send thousands upon thousands of hits then go to the boards when they dont get paid.

If these people had bothered to check on various industry forums or post a thread asking for help and advice about programs or individuals before doing business with them, i really do beleive a lot of those who prey on the lazy, naive or newbie adult webmasters would be out of business.

At the end of the day, i think a lot of time people dont post because they dont want to be seen as causing 'drama' because yet again, certain companies and individual in the past have associated questioning business practices as drama so they can keep distracting people from the issues that should matter, whether they do or do not pay affiliates, whether their design work is up to scratch or whether their advertising actually works, etc, etc...

The only people or companies imho, who are going to get pissed with someone posting on a board asking about their business practices, are the ones with something to hide.

Yeah I totally agree. Scanning board before you do business with someone, or even on a minimal level Googling them, should be standard business practice.
