An interesting part of this thread is the number of posts. Obviously sleeping is an issue that a lot of people have had, or have yet, to deal with.
That list is really interesting, Bec. With nutrition, it's hard to know what's what, since last year's "bad" food sometimes becomes this year's "superfood." For example, I've read "the experts" say that the high carb and sugar content of bananas are good for energy drinks, but can make people hyper and restless if overdone. Obviously someone knows of something in bananas that does the opposite, and I wonder if it is the potassium.
I think your idea that saying maybe one thing balances solves these dilemmas. That's what I hear most consistently from scientists and nutritionists: regular, balanced meals is what promotes overall health and proper body functioning, including energy when you need it and the ability to sleep. (And exercise, and devoting enough time to sleeping, etc.)
I do all of that, or try to, and I still need meds to sleep. But that's because of my anxiety disability.
Oh, I definately have sleeping problems, and was recently diagnosed as having Sleep Apnea. I did the sleep test, got the CPAP machine, etc etc.
So I'm always attracted to articles that talk about sleep problems and how to deal with not getting a good night's sleep. Plus I worked in food service for over 30 years, and foods do indeed influence mood, wakefulness, and so on.
